About Virginia

Virginia H. McKinnie, MA, CYT, CCH

Born and reared outside of Memphis, Tennessee, I consider myself to be an outgrowth of the “Southern magnolia voice.”  A professional writer for more than 30 years, I started my career as a freelance writer in the country music industry, and then became a technical writer for a multi-national financial company, where I won industry awards two consecutive years.

As a writing mentor and coach, I currently facilitate day-long workshops on writing, the chakra system and yoga. And I've developed a writing camp for girls that focused on their personal and social development by using scrapbooking as a stimulus.

My poems have appeared in journals and magazines, including Sage Woman, Mad Poets Review, The Pegasus Review, Watermarks, Lucidity, and Feelings of the Heart, and have received national awards and honors.

I have an MA in Literature from the University of Warwick, England, and I'm a graduate of the three-year program in Psychosynthesis, a spiritual psychology training, as well as a graduate of Woman Wisdom® Training Levels One and Two. I am also a certified yoga teacher, and received my training from the Himalayan Institute. Having trained with Anodea Judith, Ph.D. for more than 10 years, I am a Certified Chakra Healer and Teacher, focusing on the energy structures of the chakras, bioenergetic movement, and psychological and somatic chakra therapy.
